Access to credit facilities this days in Ghana has been difficult due to the current state of our financial services. UCSOND being and NGO which has been engaging communities in had to reach areas took upon itself, as part of it climate change resilience livelihood to train communities in village savings and loans as a safety net of which Tobege community part.
Tobge is a farming community in the Ellembelle district western region. The people of Tobge community are cocoa farmers who find it difficult to save and have access to credit facility because of where they are located in the district.
UCSOND project officers visited Tobge and introduce the village savings and loans concept to them. The group in Tobge is made up of men and women who came together to save and access credit facilities.
The group is made up of 26 members with 10 being male and 16 female who decided to name the group Loloyo. Members have benefited from the loans facilities the group offers and has been able to acquire knapsack sprayer, fertilizers and farming input to support their farming activities.
12 months later the members shared out with a minimum of 500gh and a maximum of 1000gh and a total interest of 800.00gh.
